Using IIS to publish from FP

I'm trying to learn how to use FP using a book that assumes MSPWS.
First thing I learned was
MSPWS isn't supported under XP Pro, so I installed IIS (Internet
Information Services). Now I'm stumbling around trying
to "publish" to the Web services supposedly provided under IIS.

The installation of IIS created C:\inetpub with a subdirectory
wwwroot. I created a small test web in
another directory, and then attempted to publish it to
http://goliathxp where goliathxp is the name
of my machine on my home LAN. It asks for a username and password, so
I gave my login id and pw.
However, these are not accepted.

What am I missing? Am I on the right track at all?

To publish a disk based web on your machine to IIS use:
http://localhost/goliathxp as the destination to publish to.

When you start the publish, FrontPage "should" prompt you that the web site goliathxp does
not exist and will ask if you want to create it.
Click Yes.

Try opening http://localhost in FrontPage, create a new folder, right-click
on the folder and convert it to a subweb. Then try publishing to
http://localhost/subweb

But first, are you running IE7? In IE7; Tools | Internet Options | Security
| Local Intranet | Sites | Advanced and added localhost to the list.

Steve,

Just tried that but no joy. As you say, it prompts me for permission
to create the Web,
and I get the username/pw dialog. However, it won't accept my username
and password.
I enter Ed as username, and it converts that to goliathxp\ed. then I
enter my password,
but it is rejected.

Any ideas?

Go into IIS in Computer management.
( right click my Computer and select Manage )
Click the plus by Services and applications.
Click the plus by Internet information services.
Right click Default web site, scroll down to New and then select
"server Extensions Web"
Give it a name when prompted.

Also, right click Default web site and select Properties.
In the properties dialog click the Directory security tab.
Click Edit.
At the bottom check "Windows Integrated Authentication"
Click OK all of the way out.
Reboot.

Thanks, Steve.

After posting my prior cry for help I kept fiddling around with
things. At some point
it began to work. Don't recall the exact prior sequence of events, but
one thing I remember is
my internet services had gotten turned off. I brought up the Internet
Options panel, clicked the Security tab,
selected the Internet Zone Icon, and clicked Reset to defaults.
Immediately after closing
Internet Options I got an onscree announcement that IIS setup had been
completed, and then
I was able to log on to localhost\goliath and publish my web.

So, do you still go through the steps you outlined below, or let well
enough alone? Also, I have anonymous access
enabled. Is that a good idea or not?

If you can create a web in IIS using FrontPage, then the steps I posted are optional.
I "usually" create the empty web in IIs first.

I have mine set to anonymous access, and i have IIS set to use "Windows Integrated Authentication"
