using indirect within a sum()

Why do I get "Cannot find Project or Library"?

=SUM(P4:INDIRECT("P"&ROW()-1))

Try it this way:

=SUM(INDIRECT("P4"&ROW()-1))

Why not just

=SUM($P$4???)

replace the ??? with the row -1 of the cell with the formula.
