Using Microsoft on-line clipart in Word

S

Simon

Hi,

I know this question might have been asked many time. As I am using a Mac, I
still not able to import the clipart download from the microsoft online
clipart page into my Office 2004 (Word)

All it does is left a clipart.mpf file on the desktop and nothing can open
it. Can anyone please help ?

I have visited microsoft help on line but it only shows how to fix this if I
am using IE or Netscape. Is there a way to get the clipart import working if
I am using Safari ?

Very much appreciated.

Have you tried simply double-clicking the icon?

That file type (along with .cil) is a "packaged" file [for security
purposes] & you're right - most anything you have will not *open* the
file... It has to be "unpacked" similar to expanding, unstuffing or
unzipping compressed files, but that should "just work" with a double-click.

Hi,

Yes I did. It is not saved as .cil file. It is an .mpf file. Even I've
changed the extention to .cil file, the Microsoft Clip organisor did came
out, but it did not show where the clips go to.

Any idea?

Many thanks.

What extension depends to a great extent on the nature of the clips within
it... There are several different ones.

The clips normally get placed in the Favorites group as well as any groups
they are associated with (based on the design of the clip). The Gallery
window should enable you to find the clips that have been added although
you'll typically have to scroll around to do so - the file names almost
always appear as numbers rather than words, which sometimes makes them
easier to spot.

Another issue may be what type of clip you d/l - there may be some which
won't work on a Mac. If so they probably won't get added to the Gallery.

Oh dear... so this means there is no solution to this, for people using mac
to get cliparts which happened to be downloaded as .mpf file from the
microsoft online clipart?

Ammmm.... strange......

Hi Simon:

Yeah. It's not "strange" it is "practical". The .mpf file contains a kind
of image the Mac can't display or print :)

(It's a Microsoft Designer file...)

Cheers

Sorry, I am getting a dead link there (perhaps because it contains a
specific session-id that is unique to your session...)

Do you have the original URI?
