Using Microsoft Word 2007 with Windows pocket pc 2003

I cannot believe what I am about to relate. I have an iPaq H5555 using
Windows Mobile 2003 and I also have onto my desktop Word 2007 and I CANNOT
USE THE TWO PROGRAMS! How incredibly stupid is that? I have no problem
whatsoever using Adobe Acrobat but windows devices cannot see or open the
other program. Wow. How do I open Word 2007 documents onto my Windows Mobile
device? Do I have to buy a NEW Windows Mobile device? Or is a 'patch'
available?

A patch is available that converts .docx into .doc for older programs to
read.

Hi

Word (ie real Word on a PC) and Pocket Word don't have much in common except
the name. Real Word has a converter that lets it read Pocket Word files, and
vice versa.

I understand that Microsoft had intended to create an upgrade to Windows
Mobile 6 to enable it to read Word 2007 files
(http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/6/wm6enterprise.htm), but I've not heard
that any upgrade has been forthcoming. The general advice seems to be to
save all files in Word 2003 format
(http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/office2007/word2007.htm).

There are third-party tools available, but I haven't tried any (eg,
http://www.dataviz.com/products/documentstogo/winmobile/index.html).

I don't think there are any plans to provide an upgrade for Windows Mobile
2003. I, too, have a Windows Mobile 2003 device and I share your
frustration!

I've run into the same problem: Word 2007 not being able to open Pocket Word
Documents (*.psw).

A work-around solution when using the mobile device is to open the Pocket
Word *.psw files and saving them as "Word 97/2000 Document (*.doc)" files -
NOT as Pocket Word Documents (*.psw). This works fine: Word 2007 opens them.

There's two problems I see with the work-around: (a) having to open ALL your
Pocket Word files to re-save them one-by-one under this *.doc format and, (b)
the memory required for the pocket *.doc files increases (may more than
double).

Along those lines, might as well create a file in the mobile device with the
"Word 97/2000 Template (*.dot) format, then create a shortcut to that file
and use that, so that every time we create a new pocket word document it'll
hopefully automatically save that file as a pocket *.doc file (and not as a
*.psw). I just thought of this but haven't tried it.

AND I AGREE: it shouldn't be too much to ask or too hard for Microsoft to
come up with a simpler solution - like offering a converter that works.

All previous Word versions (using Windows XP) used to work fine - then
again, this could also be a Vista problem, which may not be good.
