Using OE for mail but everything else in Outlook

Gis Bun

Hi. Because of circumstances, I'm using Outlook Express 6 [Win XP SP2] for my
mail but everything else in Outlook 2003 SP3.

Even though I've set my default mail client to be OE6 via IE6 and the Set
Program Access & Defaults, when I use the Send To in Word 2003, sometimes it
uses Outlook 2003 to send mail [I can tell as I have no contacts in Outlook].

Is there anything that will permanently keep OE6 as the default mail client?

Thanks

As long as Outlook is installed and you apply any sort of Office Update to
it, no. All Microsoft Office/Outlook updates that you install from Windows
Update, Microsoft Update, or Office Update have the nasty habit of resetting
Outlook to be the default email client. All you can do is keep an eye on it
and reset it to your preferred email client when these changes happen.

Oh ya. Is there something in the registry that controls the default setting?

Several places I believe, and they're all controlled by Program Access and
Defaults (Default Programs on Vista). As I said, these settings are reset
to Outlook whenever you install an Office/Outlook update. It's a long
standing problem that has been complained about and never corrected.

You say you are using OE instead of Outlook "because of circumstances" - I
can't think of any "circumstances" that would make me choose OE over Outlook
for email. Would you care to elaborate on what these "circumstances" might
be?

It's a business thing the way something was set up.

I agree with you, except for the bulkiness of Outlook, I'd choose it any day
over OE.
