Using Office 2003 in a mixed environment

J

jmklein2

I need to install Office 2003 in an environment which has
versions back to Office 97. I am looking for best
practices or some helpful tips on how to make sure that
all versions of office products can still communicate
with the prior versions of Office. Basically I am
looking for:
Best Practices to deploy Office 2003 in mixed environment
Registry entries and their purposes
System/Group Policies that would need to be set
Websites that would explain the complexities

Any information would be appreciated.

Hi, jmklein2,

A really good site to start with is the Office Resource Kit:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX011417911033.aspx

It gives you great information about all the ways you can deploy Office, as
well as customization and maintenance information.

If you look at the navigation on the left, you'll see a resource kit for all
versions back to Office 97.

Here's a direct link to the ORK for Office 2003:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2003/default.htm

Are you installing multiple versions of Office on the same system? If so,
this might help:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;828956

This might also help; most of the principles still apply, though there
doesn't seem to be an Office XP or Office 2003 version of this article:

Sharing Documents with Word 98 and Word 97 Users
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/office/2000/all/reskit/en-us/68t6_4.mspx

Policy templates are located here:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2003/journ/SP1GPCIWfiles.htm

A registry key list is here:

This should certainly get you started--
