using old settings and data from another drive

I had a harddrive crash and was unable to backup my outlook 2000 data.
Recently installed a new drive with Windows XP and now have both the old
drive and the new drive accessible. All outlook data appears to be intact
but I don't know how to get the new outlook on C: to use the old settings on
G: I found the old settings in the application data folder but that folder
doesn't exist in the new drive so simply moving files won't work. Any
thoughts?

Thanks.

Hi,

For personal users who do not have an Exchange Server, Outlook data is stored in Personal Folder files (*.pst). Outlook uses Personal Folder files to store Information such as
messages, contacts, calendar, etc. Your previous email, contacts, calednar items, etc. will be found in a .PST file.

Before you perform the following steps, please refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) articles to learn more about backing up the Outlook data and Office program
settings.

thanks for the info scott. However, the instructrions explained how to
properly backup the outlook data. I was unable to run a backup prior to the
crash. I search the drive for a pst file and found some old ones I created -
the latest being 05-05-2004. My crash happened last week. What file does
outlook read from on a daily basis? Can't I swap it for the one that was
newly installed on the other drive? And what about my accounts? Can't I
swap those files for the ones that are on the new drive?

Thanks.

Scott's information also describes how to locate the Outlook data on the old
drive. You should be able to use that as the backup and open it in your
current Outlook installation.
