Using outlines from master pages

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Intel I know probably everybody knows how to do this, because I can't find the answer anywhere. I'm not even sure what to call it. I can't find anything about it in Help or online... I'm thinking maybe everyone knows how to do it.

I have figured out how to make nice master pages and layouts, so no problem there. But how do you get text you type in on a Normal page with Master Layout applied to obey the First Level, Second Level etc. of bullets as they are laid out in the master layout I'm using? The headline works fine but the text box just stays with the First Level style.

Every how-to I find skips from creating master pages right into customizing, and nothing about just using your bullet levels that you've set up.

"stays with the First Level style" when you do what? Since you don't
specifically state, the first question is "Are you pressing Tab to demote
those other than the Level 1 items?" When you type a Level 1 then press
return the program doesn't 'assume' you want a Level 2 next, it assumes you
want another Level 1 until you tell it otherwise.

If that isn't the problem you'll need to provide a more descriptive detailed
account of what you've done, how you've done it & exactly what steps you're
following that seem contradictory to what you expect.

Well, I figured it out by going into Word help which explained it. There's an arrow thingie that you press to make it go right (or left). You guys probably know these basic things and that's why it's not in the help. I simply was asking literally How It is Done. I have not been using Word for layout for 20 years like you.

You're absolutely right - the Help in all of Office 2008 is abominable. The
information is there, but you'd have to know to search on the term 'demote'
or 'promote' which directs you to the topic: "Edit text in Outline view"...
Which is misleading because there is no "Outline View" in PPT, nor does it
even suggest that you can do the same things directly on the slide :)

Anyway, if you prefer to display an extra toolbar & reach for the mouse
every time you want to promote/demote a list item that's certainly your
option. However, the answer I gave to your question accomplishes the same
thing more efficiently & without using screen space:

At the beginning of the line;

Press Tab to demote one level
Press Shift+Tab to promote one level

That's "How It is Done" :)
