Using Outlook 2003 on Two Computers

About 90% of the time, I use Outlook for e-mail, contact management and
calendaring on a desktop machine. However, when I go on a road trip, I
transfer my outlook.pst and archive.pst files to my laptop computer and
access e-mail etc. from there. When I come back, I transfer the files back
to the desktop machine. The only difficulty I find with Outlook itself is
that I have to reset my e-mail rules with every transfer. Any messages that
come in that are subject to rules produce an error message, and when I go
into the rules dialog, those rules are unchecked. I re-check them, run
those rules on Unread Messages in the Inbox folder, and then everything is
set right again. This is something of a nuisance, but not the major issue
here.

I use a Treo 650 running the Palm OS to synchronize with Outlook. On the
desktop machine (the normal environment), this works fine. If I sync with
the laptop configuration, I get lots of duplicated contacts and calendar
entries. Given that there are over 3000 contacts in my folder, this is not
an insignificant problem.

My questions: (1) Is there a way to get the Palm synchronization to play
nice with the laptop version of Outlook, and (2) is there an easier or
better way to transfer or otherwise configure the *.pst files between the
two machines to avoid these problems?
