Using PC formatted Excel file on Mac

A co-worker sent me a Excel 97-2004 workbook spreadsheet via email (unzipped).

When I opened a file on my Mac Pro (OS: Tiger) with Excel 2008, I could not view all of the items that were listed in a cell with a drop-down menu. On my co-worker's PC, the correct drop-down menu appears – on my Mac it doesn't. Any suggestions?

Was there a scroll bar to show the ones that would not fit directly in the
drop down?

On my co-worker's PC a scroll bar is visible, but not on my Mac. When I click on the cell with the drop-down menu, up and down arrows appear. When I click on the down arrow, a drop-down menu appears, but there is no scroll bar on the right side.

MacXL validation lists don't have a scroll bar - XL either displays the
entire list, or, if it can't, displays the validation list from top to
bottom of the screen, with an arrow at one or both ends. If you hover
over the arrow with the mouse cursor, the list will scroll.
