Using Project to plan multiple proposals

I am a beginner when it comes to using Project, so forgive me if this i
a silly question. I am working on multiple grant proposals and woul
like to do one Gantt chart to keep track of them all (and to assign th
resources and man-hours of all the people working on the proposals)
Each proposal has a different finish date. Ideally I would keep updat
the chart and tasks every time I decide to work on a new gran
proposal.

I haven't been able to find much to help me put this together. I ca
create a new Project file when I have *one* proposal to complete, bu
I'm unsure how to do this with proposals and how to integrate them all

Hi leigh1234 -
What I gather is you have multiple stand alone grant proposals. Each
proposal has multiple tasks, but the proposals do not need to link to each
other. Perhaps some of them run in parallel, but not necessarily.

Probably the easiest way to do it is just put them all in one file. Each
grant would have a summary task, with all its subordinate tasks intented
beneath it. This way, you can use one resource sheet in one file and track
everything.

A different approach would be to have each proposal schedule in a separate
file. This would perhaps also require the use of a Resource Pool file to be
sure none of the resources is overloaded. If you want to create a "Master
Proposal File" you would do it like this ---

Open all the individual files. Click Window/New Window. Select all the
files and then select OK. You can then save the resulting single file.
However, these files are linked to the originals -- changes to the originals
change the master. If the single files are moved (or deleted) the master is
corrupted.

To keep things simple, you should consider the single file approach as your
easiest solution.

Leigh1234,

MS Project is not efficient for automated, resource-constrained, multi-
project scheduling when some resources are to be shared across
projects, particularly if you need to update project schedules every
time you decide to work on a new grant proposal. Optisol
(www.optisol.biz) offers a powerful tool for this purpose. It gives
task list for each resource without resource overloading and provides
drag-and-drop options on Gantt chart at both project and task level.
It also offers extensive what-if analysis of resource-constrained,
multi-project scheduling.

Prasad
