Using Publisher for Large Format layout

Does anyone use Publisher for large format layout (i.e. 30"x42"). We have a
guy that insists that Publisher is the end all be all in graphics, I disagree
and use Adobe Photoshop for stuff like this. If you did create a document
this size in Publisher is it possible to print it @ 11x17, 8.5x11 or other
size without having to resize the publisher file without any problems? Could
anyone give me reasons as to why Publisher would be a better solution than
Photoshop for page sizes larger than your general brochures, newsletters,
etc.?

Thanks in advance.

You can print any size in Publisher as long as your printer is capable of using
the large stock.

The question I would have to ask you, why are you trying to compare Publisher
with Photoshop?
It is oranges and apples.

Why would you use PhotoShop for this? That's completely absurd. Design and
prepress for large format output is quite different than it is for
conventional print. Even if this was conventional print the idea of using
PhotoShop as a layout program is a horrible idea.

With large format output everything is scaled up. So if you scale up a
raster document (a la PhotoShop) you end up with less resolution. If you
design at 100% you end up with a image that is overly complex and almost
unmanageable in size.

So using a program like Publisher where you can keep much of it vector based
is to your advantage because it is smaller, resolution independent and is
more flexible and just looks better when printed.
