Using resource allocation for planning

Hi,

I'm creating a project plan mostly for planning purposes. Almost all
tasks are performed by a single resource - myself. As expected, when
I create tasks they all start on the same day unless I set predecessor
values or start/end dates. This is accurate, since these tasks could
mostly be performed in parallel.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to see task dates automatically adjusted
based on adding the same resource to multiple tasks. Can project do
this, or is the point of not doing this that it shows that my resource
is overallocated?
