Using templates in Access?

Birdman895

I just installed Office 2003. Although I've used Access before, it's been a
few years.
I started Access for the first time and tried to start a new file using a
template provided with the software. As it starts to load up in Access, I
get the message "item not found in this collection" and it doesn't load
properly. What's curious is that this happens with every template I try to
use.
Any suggestions?

Is it possible that they have not yet been (properly or otherwise)/ installed
from your CD Rom? I get similar messages from My Office applications!

After I read your reply I went and checked how I had installed. I have lots
of drive space so I installed everything as "Run all from my PC". Also, even
the templates that I downloaded from Office Online gave me the same error.
By the way, thanks for responding to my post. Your the 1st one to respond to
any of my posts in two months. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks again

Several possibilities. First make sure that the table and column being
referenced is actually there.

Second, re-register DAO by doing Start ... Run then type:

regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\dao360.dll"

assuming that's the path and current version. You may want to uninstall,
reboot, then reinstall Office if you are still having this problem.

As far as responding to posts. When you use a web browser interface, it is
sometimes difficult or impossible for us to see a thread. All newgroup
regulars use a newsreader like Outlook Express, or Free Agent. Also using a
real sounding name is generally more apt to get a response than using an
alias. I'm not suggesting that you post your real email address though as
that's sure to bring undesireable results as well.

It may have just as easily been bad luck. Keep posting, we'll get it right,
eventually.

Hi Arvin,
First, It doesn't reference a table and column. The message I get is "Item
not found in this collection", and this appears as soon as the template
starts to open.
Second, I ran that exactly as you typed it and it returned a message that
it succeded.
Also, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office a number of times now, no help.
I was wondering, would you be willing to accept an invitation for remote
assistance so that you can see it for yourself? I realize that you probably
get a lot of requests for help so I'll understand if you decline.
Lastly, I will be changing my display name, and I'm taking a look at free
Agent and Outlook Express. Both of them are requesting the Host Server name
for the newsgroup. Do you know what that is for this newsgroup?
Thank you for your help,
Alan
