using the delete key

When I select text in a word document (Word XP) and hit
the delete key on the keyboard, instead of immediately
deleting the text, I'm prompted at the bottom of the
screen to comfirm whether or not I really want to delete
the text. I haven't been able to figure out how to set
Word to not ask for confirmation when I hit the delete
key. I would greatly appreciate help anyone could provide
to change this setting. Thank you!
