Utility to Change "Save as" Function?

I would like to find a utility that changes the "save-as" function in
office, and other software applications, that will let me specify a
drop-down list of possible standard file names that I can define.
Does anyone know of such a function? Thanks!

if i'm not mistaken
the method of "saving files
as" something other than
the standard format of the
program is based on what
file conversion programs are
added into the main program.

it is unlikely, that you can
willfully alter a program
without a "converter".

i suppose the key word
for the program you are seeking
are "converters".

there are word to pdf converters,
tiff to jpeg converters, etc....

Actually, I am not looking to change the type of file, I just want to
control the name of the file, for instance, based on the client name
or year or something like that.

The easiest way to do what you want is to "pre-populate" the folder with
a "dummy file" named using the basic format you want. Simply click that
file while in the Save As dialog and then append your additional info.

ok, thanks for
the clarification.

the response provided
by "bob" sounds like
a great idea. i use
that method for saving
multiple drafts versions
in photoshop....
