V. 2003 dual monitor acting differently

I have a computer that is set up with dual monitor mode. When I ran a slide
show in version 2003, a separate program showed up on the taskbar that
allowed me to run the slideshow, skipping slides if necessary. Recently the
hard drive was reformatted and PowerPoint was reinstalled and now (you
guessed it), the separate program doesn't come up anymore. It's much harder
to manipulate the slideshow without this program. Can anyone help me get it
back to the way it was? Thanks.

You seem to be talking about Presenter View. Select "Slide Show" | "Set Up
Show..." menu item, place a check against "Show Presenter View" box, click
OK. Now start the slide show. Does this help?

To amplify the above, we don't really have two monitors--it's a desktop. We
just want to project one thing and see something else on the regular screen.
