v. 2008 can't open earlier version - unsupported

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Intel I have tried repairing the disk permissions and restarted my computer but PP still says "This file has an older format that isn't supported." Followed by: "PowerPoint cannot open the type of file represented by Macintosh..."

I haven't had this problem in the past - all of these files are downloaded from a "classroom". I've also tried on my desktop and am having the same problem.

What to do?

Make sure that your Office software (12.2.3) & OS X (10.4.11) are fully
updated. If you still can't open the files you'll need to identify what file
type they are (.ppt, .pptx, ???) as well as what version of what program
they were created with -- there are a number of apps out there which claim
to be able to save in a PPT format, but not all succeed.

There are also variable introduced by browsers, so that may be a factor as
well. Make sure your browser is fully updated & if that still doesn't work
try using a different web browser... Most of them are free.

The files I have a problem with are .ppt and everything is fully updated on my computer and the software program. That isn't the problem and I have tried using a different browser but it didn't make a difference.

I don't know what year the files were originally created. I am going to have to dig out Office Mac 2004, install it, and then see if I still have the problem. Its the only thing left I can think of.
