V2007 TR2 - DataDiagram - IT Assets

I love the new V2007 and it is generating lots of ideas.

I would like to now how the IT Asset sample was built.

It looks as if it was put together manually and then the data imported based
on the information present and linked to the diagrams already there.

I would like for Visio to generate the diagrams directly from the data -
would I have to program this?

for example - we have 10 racks - but the sample only ever shows two...

Many thanks in advance

you're correct in that visio does not support it natively (code has to be
written)

and do you have a real e-mail address

The IT Asset Management sample diagram was first created manually by
dropping the shapes on the page and assembling the diagram. Then, the data
was imported using Data>Link Data to Shapes. The rows of data were linked to
the shapes by dragging them from the External Data window onto the shapes,
and the Data Graphics feature (Data>Display Data on Shapes) was used to
display the data.

There isn't a way to automatically generate a diagram like this from the
data without doing some programming. There is, however, a way to drop
multiple copies of a shape at once, each one linked to a separate row in the
data. You just select the desired shape in the stencil, select the rows of
data in the External Data window (with the Shift or Ctrl key held down), and
then drag and drop those rows from the External Data window to the page. A
data-linked copy of the selected shape will be dropped on the page, one for
each row of data you drag out. This can save some time, especially if you
have a lot of shapes of the same type but with different data. You can use
this method for individual rows/shapes as well.

Glad to hear you're enjoying Visio 2007.
