Value labels in bar charts

Sometimes when I create a bar chart and include the value label above the
bar, the label breaks into multiple lines. This happens with longer labels
(like 300,345), but also sometimes happens with 3 or 4 digit numbers. The
bar the number sets above is plenty wide enough to accommodate the number.
How do I make the place holder for the number wider?

Any more details as I cannot make this happen. I can get 15 numbers (14point)
on one line even when there really isnt space!

Unfortunately, you can't control the size and line breaks. Best bet is to
add them in manual textboxes. Turning off font autoscale might help. See

I was hoping to do it without manually creating a text box. I format charts
that other authors have created and find that some don't know how to work
with chart data and they will edit a text box without changing the number in
the data sheet.

I do turn off the autoscale. That doesn't have any affect. There is no
problem on some charts and I can resize them (in edit mode) without the
number breaking -- the bar can even be a little narrower than the number. On
other charts, however, the bar has to be a lot wider than the number or the
number will break. I can't figure out what is making the difference. Any
suggestions?
