Vanishing emails

Hi

When downloading messages from a mailbox hosted by my ISP,
on occasions Outlook indicates that it is downloading 1 or
more messages, but they vanish (do not end up in the inbox
of Outlook).

Any thoughts gratefully appreciated.

rules moving them somewhere? junk mail filter or antivirus filter catching
them before outlook gets them?
