Variance question

J.Allman

I am trying to track variances.
Ex: I have a 30 day task that has started ontime. The resource has worked
the task ontime for 15 days of work so the task is on scheduled and 50%
completed. Then the resource gets sick for 5 working days. When I update the
status date and current date and plug in the actuals for this task at the end
of the week that the resource was sick ( I added 0 work hours for this week
against the task due to the sickness) I see the SV% change indicating that we
are behind but I do not see a finish varince at all. This is due to the fact
that the [finish] has not adjusted to a later date even though we are a week
behind.
What am I doing wrong?

You never told project to change the end date or remaining duration.
Tools/Tracking/Update Project....
Reschedule uncompleted work to start after (input a date)
Selected tasks or entire project as you please.

The alternative is to do it your way and also change the remaining duration
by adding 5 days. The end result is the same.

Sounds like you need to reschedule the remaining portion of the task. I don't
believe that Project does that automatically based on working hours entered.
So, you could use the Split Task button on the Standard toolbar or the
Reschedule Work button on the Tracking toolbar. HTH
