VB and powerpoint

I am making a presentation / media player with VB and need a way to start a
presentation and have it return to the app at the end of the presentation.
When I shell out to PowerPoint I get the presentation to run but waits for a
mouse click with at blank screen at the end, and never returns back to my app
until I click the mouse.

Open your file, click "Tools", "Options", click the "View" TAB and uncheck
the "end with black slide". Also make sure you are "shelling" to a PPS file
and not a PPT file. not sure if it will cause problems, but is certainly
much cleaner.
