Version Control & Putting Previously Created Plans OntoProject Ser

Hi i thought i was ready to get everybody to use project server until i did a
demo with my organisation. They raised the question of versions! They wanted
to know if they could replace a published plan with one of it's versions. So
someone opens up a a published project and saves it as for example version 2
so they can display a whatif scenario. After doing all this could they go
back and use their whatif scenario as their main published plan?

Also i have noticed that any projects that i put on the server from previous
versions of project i.e project 2000aren't the same - the days on the gantt
charts get changed to decimals. so 29days may become 29.4days. I tried
changing the working time section -this hasn't helped!

If anybody could help me i would be most thankful.

If you are referring to the built-in Version feature of Project Server 2003,
then no, there is no default method by which you can replace the Published
(production) version of the project with an alternate What If version. The
only method for doing this would be to do the following:

1. Open the What If version and save it as an .mpp file
2. Ask the Project Server administrator to delete both the What If and
Published versions of the project
3. Import the What If version as the Published version using Tools -
Enterprise Options - Import Project to Enterprise

The problems you see with Duration calculation can arise from a couple of
potential factors:

1. The enterprise Standard calendar contains a different working schedule
than the Standard calendar used in the Project 2000 version of the project
(the enterprise Standard calendar always replaces the Standard calendar when
you import an .mpp project into Project Server)

2. The schedule shown on the Project calendar is "out of synch" with the
Hours per day value on the Calendar page of the Options dialog for the
project (Tools - Options)

Hope this helps.
