Versions with Archive option

Dear list,

The help in project isn't clear about the Archive option of the versions of
a project.
I've defined different version names in PWA as admin. I've save a project
saved with all these versions. Switching a version from Archived 'yes' to
'no' in PWA doesn't change anything.
Could anyone explain the working of these 'Archived' option of 'Version'
feature.
