Versions

If I have a project plan published as version ".published"
and I work on a version called ".maybe",then I determine
that the ".maybe" version is the plan the team should
follow. How can you change the ".maybe" version to
the ".published" version and make the original ".published
version" become a ".old" version.

All of this assumes that the administrator has defined the
versions of .maybe and .old

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Melinda:

Project versions don't play forward very well. You may consider this ugly,
but what you need to do is save both versions as mpp files, delete both
versions (and any other versions you may have) from the server, the
non-published version(s) first. Now import the version you want to keep as
the published version using Tools > Enterprise Options > Import Project to
Enterprise.

Thank you for the information.

What is the philosophy behind the use of versions if there
is no control over the version that is in use?

If I delete both versions would I not lose and be unable
to retrieve all the "actual" work posted to the project?

Thank you any additional comments on this subject.

The actual work values are preserved however if any updates were made to the
published version while the new version was being worked on, then you would
loose that data. I don't recommend using versions this way unless you're in
the early stages of planning, and not yet executing the plan.
