Vertical alignment changes

I have a 30 page Word 2000 document which consists of around a doze
tables, each table separated by a page break. Some of the tables spa
more than one page, in some cases 3 or 4 pages.

On the pages where a table starts, there's a paragraph mark at the to
of the page. On the pages where the table has flowed from the previou
page, there isn't. (A paragraph mark.)

This means the vertical position of the 1st line of text on each pag
can vary, depending on whether it's the first line of the table o
whether it's flowed on from the previous page.

Can anyone tell me how I can get the vertical alignment of every pag
to match?

Thanks,

Stev

I don't think that's going to work - it will just join the tables and then
the page break will be lost.

If having all the tables joined is acceptable, you could force the page
break by using 'page break before' on the first cell of the row where you
need the break. Otherwise, I think all you can do is reduce the breaking
paragraphs to be 1pt height, with no space above/below.

Delete the page break and do one of two things:

1. Format the first row of the table as "Page break before." Note that this
will not split the table; you will need to insert an empty paragraph after
the table on the previous page.

2. Select enough rows of the table to fill most of the page and format them
as "Keep with next." Again, you'll need an empty paragraph between this
table and the previous one. See

Thanks to the 3 of you for taking the trouble to think about m
problem.

I really need to keep the tables separate for ease of managing the
(differing numbers of columns in some of them) so joining the tables i
something I'd prefer not to do. But Margaret's idea is brilliant -
hadn't thought of reducing the paragraph marks to 1pt. That makes th
difference in the aligmnent so small you wouldn't notice.

Suzanne's answer looks like it would've worked, but I came up with m
own solution before reading your replies: Format the pesky paragraph
as "hidden text". Presto! Vertical alignment identical on all pages
And I don't have to worry about any other formatting issues like "pag
beak before" "keep with next" and so on.

Cheers

If you're going to use a page break anyway, then I don't see how using "Page
break before" is a real problem.
