vertical lines

I typed a page that was actually supposed to be divided
by a vertical line. Information on the left of the
middle of the page and information on the right of the
middle of the page. The whole text was also supposed to
have a border all the way around. I got the border done
but how or can I put a vertical line down the middle of
the page???? That's my main problem. The other
problem I had was word was changing the fonts on me
everytime I did something. I'm using windows xp and have
word 2002. It must have taken me 10 hours to type one
page and I don't hardly have any hair left as I just
about pulled it all out. Help

To produce vertical line between the two column text, from menu "Format >
Columns", select the option "Line between" .

Regarding the change in font, check whether the style you are using has
"Automatically update" option selected. To switch off that select the menu
"Format > Style", and in the "Style" dialog box select the style you are
using and click "Modify". Now the "Modify Style" dialog appears, now uncheck
the "Automatically update" option.

I have Word 2000 and this is how I draw a vertical line.

Click on the Drawing icon on the toolbar.
This will bring up the Drawing toolbar. (Mine appears just above the
taskbar).
Click on the backwards sloping line. It looks like an elongated
backslash.
Move your cursor onto the screen and it will change to a black cross
(+).
Left click and drag your cursor in ANY direction, release mouse, and you
will have your line. At either end of the line there will be a small
box. Click and drag to adjust length/direction.

I suggest you practice on a blank document first. HTH.
