Very slow file opening in Office Suite

I have 3 computers - all Dell, 2PCs (1 is Optiplex GX520 and a Latitude
laptop. Using Windows XP and Word 2003 etc. On all 3 it takes MINUTES to
go through the file hierarchy to open a file in Word, Ppt or Exel - each
layer takes >1 min to open.
If I open from "My Computer" it works quite quickly and normally, but saving
takes ages.
I had Office Suite reinstalled on one computer and things were fine for a
while but suddenly reverted to long lag times.

Any ideas?
