Very slow opening files

I have been working on an issue for a while with excel, both 2003 and
2007, where excel is taking a very long time to open when I double
click on a file. If I open excel and then open the file it is
instantaneous. If I open the same file by double clicking on it in
explorer, it took 20 seconds to open. This is a 31k file that is
nothing more than a list of contact information and passwords. This is
happening on a brand new dell optiplex gx 510 with 1gb of ram. It is a
fresh install of XP Pro and Office pro. Please help....

Thanks,
Zach

I took a look at his site. It doesn't have anything that has helped
me. I have been searching for several days and trying all sorts of
tips and tricks to get this working better. As I mentioned, this is
happening now on a brand new pc that has never been used. I created a
spreadsheet with two cells of plain text just to create a local file.
It still takes over 20 seconds to open that file. I can not seem to
find out anything. I am about to try and call Microsoft.

Open My computer - go to Tools Folder Options and click the View tab. In
Advanced Settings, make sure Automatically search for network folders and
printers is unchecked. click apply then close. You may have to reboot.
This may help
