Word 2003 became very slow starting after a reinstallation caused by a
hardware crash. Subsequent uninstall and reinstalls did not fix the problem.
I've sorted out the template location problems - OK now. At least as far as
I can tell.
Also tried the SUPPORT.DOT options with no changes in start time.
Winword /a starts in a flash!
Machine is running Windows 2000, with Office 2000 Professional with updates
on Word 2003 and a couple others to 2002/2003 levels. Running at 2600+ MHz.
A lot of MS Knowledge Base searching has helped me explore many things ---
but did not fix the 30 second start-up time. Is there a description of the
Word 2003 template and add-in file locations? I couldn't find this.
Perhaps related: When Word 2003 starts, I get the Windows Installer box for
a second or so. Why is the Installer running every time I start Word 2003 in
a normal way?
Ideas, please.
