In Office 2008, Apple QuickTime is the program that handles movies. I
don't know of a VLC codec for QuickTime, but if there is one, then your
video will play.

Flip4Mac will let QuickTime play wmv files.

If you need to convert a video to .mov, give this web site a try:

Flip4Mac will let QuickTime play wmv files.

And the free Perian codecs cover an extra extremely wide range of
additional codecs (including DivX).
