videos stop playing during a presentation

What is the best video format for use in a presentation? I've tried wmv, dv, and mov but I have problems whenever I give a presentation on a projector. The files seem to work fine when I test them on my mac but whenever I'm attached to a projector the files won't play properly. It does not happen ALL of the time, but usually.

This is obviously very frustrating when you are in front of an audience giving a presentation. Any recommendations? I have NO way of predicting the type of projector being used b/c I'm always a guest speaker at someone else's event. The problem happens in both presentation modes.

What do you mean by not play properly? Does it stop playing or there
is some other issue?

It typically stops playing. Sometimes the audio keeps going and the picture stops, sometimes it never starts, sometimes it goes fine through most of the video and stops before it was complete.
