View Availability not showing expected results.

Hi,
Consider this situation.
You have a 10 week task of someone at 50%, giving 25 days of Work.

However, on the first week they work full time and log full days aginst the task.

The total work still shows as being 25 days but the % against the resource name on the Gantt chart shows 100%, presumably just showing the maximum at any time during the task.

Then the next week they do nothing, and then work 50% on the following week.

Total work stays the same and the % against the resource name still shows 100%.

So far that’s fine.

If you go to Resource Center and click View Availability then for week 1 is shows 100%, week 2 it shows 0% and week 3 it shows 50% as expected.

However, for the remaining weeks the person is shown at 100% for the full duration which seems rather misleading.

I would have expected it to be shown at the original 50%.

Can anyone explain this?

It is particularly problematic for background tasks for the year set at say 5%. If the suddenly spend a full day on it then it will show them at 100% for the rest of the year.

Thanks
Steve

Steve --

The percentage you see to the right of a resources name in the Gantt Chart
view is actually the Peak Units value. The Peak Units value is the greatest
amount of Units at any point over the life of the task, either for planned
Work, Actual Work, or Remaining Work. Since the resource worked full-time
on the task during the first week, the Peak Units value is 100%, which is
correct.

In the View Availability page in PWA, the red line is the resource's
availability for all project work. Assuming the resource's Max. Units value
is set to 100% Units in the Enterprise Resource Pool, his/her availability
will show as 100% in the View Availability page, unless there is a company
holiday or the resource has planned nonworking time such as vacation. Hope
this helps.
