View is not what prints

When I tell some documents to print, it tells me I am printing outside the printers printable margins. I hit fix and the bottom margin jumps to 2.67. If I tell it ignore, it will show the whole document in print preview, but when printing the bottom 2.67 does not show up. I can tell it again, and it will print, but only on occassion. The defaults are set to 1", the document margins are set to .5 on all four sides. So there should not be anything for it to "fix". What is happening??

There's a mismatch somewhere. Check your document size and margins and
what space the headers and footers take up against the paper size your
print driver is set to use.

Also, many printers cannot print on the outer 1/4" to 3/8" of the
paper... because the printer needs that area for the "grippers". This
effectively means that in Word you should have at least that amount of
space as margins.

BTW, what printer driver are you using?

You could try setting it as the default from the Page Setup dialogue then
print. When you ready to use the original margins you set it back to 1".

This is a symptom of a bug in the LaserJet PCL6 driver. Either revert to the
LaserJet 5e driver or go to HP.com where I am told they have a new driver
that resolves the bug.

I'm using a HP Lazer Jet 400
I know I am within the printer's required margins, since this happens only occasionally. I'll check HP for a patch and see what happens. Thanks for the input.
