View two word documents side by side for comparison

Often I need to have two word documents open at the same time. An example of
this would be if I have received a letter and am writing a reply, or if I am
working through a specification sheet and comparing it to a plan for a
modification.
In Word Xp I would have to have the two documents open separately, and it
takes several clicks to change the active document, move to the scrolling
buttons, scroll the document down, then go back to the other document, scroll
that one down etc.
I think there should be a new two-document view, which positions the
documents side by side in a single Word window, so that both remain visible
and you can scroll either document with a single button click. This would
look a bit like the new navigation and reading panes in outlook, that make it
easy to work with two different panes at the same time.

Hi Paul

In Word 2003, open two documents, choose Window > Compare Side by side and
you'll get side-by-side synchronous scrolling, as you want.

When are using this feature, a toolbar opens that allows you to turn off the
synchronous scrolling if you wish.

Hope this helps.
