viewing mail without it being marked unread

I recently upgraded to microsoft office outlook from outlook express. If I am
not mistaken, I used to be able to look at an email for 10-15 seconds and
click off of it and it would still be marked as unread. With office, as soon
as it is highlighted, it is marked as read. Is there a setting I can change
to fix this, I can not find it if there is. Thank you

Just a nit: installing Outlook is not "upgrading Outlook Express". The two
programs are completely separate applications. Outlook Express is not a
"light" version of Outlook.

That said, what's in Tools>Options>Other>Reading Pane?
