Dale,
That was the first thing I tried. I added the notes field to a Project view
(Tasks Summary) and then tried to see notes on a task left by other team
members. While I could see that a note had been attached, and by which team
member, I was only able to read notes I had added to a task in Project Pro.
Notes from other team members only contained the following - "Resource Name
(Jan 4 '05): [Resource Name]", no note. This is after the project tasks were
updated to the project file.
I also found this in my search for a solution (p.108-109 Security Group
Guide):
"Note - Notes can contain multiple comments from multiple resources and
project managers (the author of each comment is identified). When the task is
updated, the project manager can view the note in Project Professional 2003
by viewing the Task Notes field in the task sheet view."
It is not possible to add a note to a task in a Project view, it must be
done in the Task (timesheet) view. This is also the only place I have found
the note can be viewed by a team member who posted it. If there is only one
resource assigned the task, others cannot see the note in the Project views,
and only those who can open the project in Project Pro can see all of the
notes associated with all tasks. If a team member is not assigned a task they
cannot post a note to it. At least this is what I have found so far.
I think all team members should be able to see all notes attached to a task
in a Project view the same way they can see the Risks, Issues and Documents.
The fact that the "Insert Notes" link is not on the Project views option bar
tells me it is not currently an allowable function. Please prove me wrong
<grin>.
