Viewing Older Visio Files

Please help. I would like to view some older (1996) Visio (.vsd) files. I
can view the newer files. I've tried the Viewers 2007, 2003 and 2002.
When I double-click the .vsd file an Internet Explorer window opens and I
get an error message "The file you are trying to open was created in an
unsupported version of Microsoft Office Visio. For a list of supported
versions, see the Microsoft Visio Viewer Help." or "Could not open file.
There may be a problem with the file."
I don't mind purchasing Visio to do this, if I knew it would work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I downloaded/installed Visio 2007 Trial Version. I can open the files with
it and I can print them as an Adobe pdf which I can view with Adobe Acrobat.
So, I guess I've found a solution, but it's going to take many hours to go
thru this process. If anyone has a better/cleaner/easier/quicker solution,
please let me know. I would be extremely grateful.

Any version of Visio can open all the older versions. The viewers are
unfortunately limited to a few versions back.

You should have someone open the old files and save copies in a newer Visio
file format. The trial version can be used.
