I'm looking for MS Project to sum all my Outlined Level 3 subtasks (the
multiple System #'s) into one like line item, giving me an overall % of that
(system # in this case). You see we broke the schedule into Areas, then by
Elevations, then by Systems, etc. It is here on the System level I would like
to sum up all the %'s for each system which may be in (5) different Areas on
multiple Elevations. The only way I know how to "sum" up all the % is to:
First, show outline level 3. Second, do a sort (the down arrow in the header
of the "Task Name") by the System "#". ( for example select 2, it then shows
that System #2 is located in Grade of Area A, Foundation and Grade of Area B
and so on.) Thirdly, I would have to do the math (multiple up all the %'s by
associated hours for that item, for every (2) that shows up, then add them up
for the total "completed" hours and divide by the total # of hours
"allocated" for each (2) that shows up.)

Bob,
I needed something similar to this.

What I did was create a new 'section' in my plan, and then copied the task
names from the various sections that I wanted to add up.

Then I used the copy & paste 'special' function for each % work complete
making sure that in paste special the 'paste link' checkbox was selected.

What this basically does is link the % complete dynamically so that each
time it changes in the 'real' project in also changes in the new 'summary'
section.

Therefore you have 2 views of % complete, 1 within the MSP WBS and one of
the items that you have selected.
