Views moving from pro to server

J

Jim Bresee

Good day!
Perhaps a silly question. We have a view that we use to reconcile task work
versus actual work.
The view filters by group.

When we migrate plans that contain this view to project server, the time
reported in the view for a resource now includes all of the resource's actual
work from all project plans.

How do we modify our view so that it is only showing the resources actual
work on this specific project plan?

Thanks!

Jim,
I have the same problem. It's annoying. Yes, Gary - it is the resource
usage view.

I have found that if I save the project offline and then work on it offline,
the resource usage view only shows the current project.

You can filter the resource usage view to only show assignments where
[Project] equals "xxxxx" where xxxxx is current project name, but the total
for the resource includes work on all the other projects.

I'll be interested if you can find a neat solution.

To see the information you want in Project Server, I would recommend that
you create a custom Group and apply it in the Task Usage view to "trick"
Project Server into showing you resource information for only the active
project. Follow these steps to create and apply the custom Group:

1. Open the project in question
2. Click Project - Group by - More Groups
3. Click the New button
4. Name the new Group something like "_Group by Resource Assignments"
5. Select the "Group by assignments, not tasks" option below the data grid
6. On the Group By line, select the Name field and set the Field Type as
Assignment
7. On the Then By line, select the Name field and set the Field Type as
Task
8. Click the OK button
9. Click View - Task Usage
10. Click Project - Group By and select your new Group
11. Click the Show button on the Formatting toolbar and select Outline
Level 2

I realize the resulting view is not beautiful, but it shows the information
you want. Hope this helps.

Sounds like your view is based on the resource usage view. If so, you'll
need to base it off the Task Usage view.

Well, now Dale has given you the exact directions to use the Task Usage view
as I originally suggested.

You are more than welcome, my friend! The solution is both clever and
cunning, because it tricks Project Server into revealing the desired
information.

If you in Australia, we have friends who live in Caloundra, which I believe
is near Brisbane. They used to live and work in Brisbane, in fact.
