Visio 2000 and Word

Does Visio have the ability to "paste link" to a word
document so that only the Visio flowchart needs to be
updated without having to re-paste the flowchart after
update.

No - but you can insert a Visio object as a link from file, which would
allow you to edit the Visio document by double clicking it in Word.
