Visio 2002 closes while opening visio document

Visio 2002 Sp3 -
Windows Xp Pro - Sp2
Office 2003 Pro -

When you navigate to open a particular visio file Visio will close down - no
error message - just close down.
The same happens when you browse the directory and open via explorer.
No spyware found on the machine - note this is happening to about 10
machines.
All Dell Latitude Laptops.
Note: Office 2003 and Visio have been reinstalled with all updates applied.
The machines have been rebuilt with the same result.
Anybody come accross this behaviour?
