Visio 2002 is useless with Visio 2003 docs

I am unable to open Visio 2003 docs in Visio 2002. I get the error message
that says 'this file cannot be opened because it was created with a newer or
unrecognized version of Visio....' I've already been to the Help and
Support site and read Article ID 870571 which states that the author or
originator of the 2003 file must save it as a 2002 file - but what if I am
the 2002 customer? I only have 2002 on my machine. Am I supposed to ask the
originator to revise their file to accomadate a defect in 2002? What if this
file was sent to me by a customer, or individual that I do not have the
luxury of expecting they will modify the file to accomadate last years
version. What happened to the big push for 'interoperability'? Its simply a
rip off and poor execution of the 2003 release.

"a defect in Visio 2002"? Sorry, but the Visio development team are not
psychic. When Visio 2002, they had no idea what Visio 2003, or Visio 2007
would be like. All versions of Visio can read all previsou versions, but not
the other way around.

If you can not get the original creators to convert, you could ask someone
else to do the conversion.

You can, of course, use the free Microsoft Visio Viewer to look at the Visio
2003 (or 2007) documents.

I may be doing something wrong but Visio Viewer 2007 does not seem to work if
MS Visio 2000 or 2003 is installed on the same system. It only appears to
work for me if visio is not installed.Should it?

It shouldn't be related. I have Visio 2003 and Visio 2007 Viewer on the
same PC.

I have pre-MS Visio Technical 4.1; Visio 2003 and Visio 2007 all happily
co-existing. I don't have Viewer 2007, but would be surprised if there were
any conflict there either.

I can't get my co-worker's .vsd files to open with Visio Viewer 2007. Error
message is "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be
downloaded". Files are on my desktop, so what "download" is this message
referring to?

Where do I look in IE 7.0 to verify that the Viewer is installed correctly?
Don't see it anywhere in Tools|Internet Options|Programs|Manage Add-ons.

Thanks,

Geoff

I'm getting the same result. Visio Viewer 2003, Visio Viewer 2007 or Visio
Viewer 2007 SP1 won't work if I have Visio 2002 installed (

Have you reviewed the following article?

A Visio drawing may not open in Visio Viewer 2007, and you may receive an
error message in Internet Explorer
