I spent a lot of time trying to get Visio 2002 working on my W2KSP4 PC, but
it appears (after many installs/un-installs/re-installs) that the Shape
Gallery component is just not going to work.
I followed every Microsoft article advice I could find (ie KB324291),
installing MDAC 2.7, Jet 4Sp7, other updates and pathces, even adding
"Index=0" in the registry, all to no avail. In the end I managed to get
Visio 2002 working by altering the registry, setting:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Visio\Addins\VisioSGIX.Manager\LoadBeh
avior = 0
This (judging by MSDN doco) appears to stop the Shape Gallery Indexer from
loading when Visio 2002 starts up. So far I haven't seen any adverse effect
from doing this, and at last (after 2 weeks of trying), I can finally get
Visio 2002 to startup.
Prior to this "fix", Visio 2002 would crash on startup, in what appears to
be sg.dll, and would kindly apologise for the inconvenience.
Has anyone experienced the same problem? Is there likely to be some adverse
effect using this "fix"?
