Visio 2003 Add-on Error message at Startup

S

Steve

I recently upgraded to Visio 2003. I did a full install from the CD.
Whenever I start Visio I receive the following message:

'Visio could not find this add-on or one of its files. An error
occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Would
you like to repair this feature now?'

If I select repair, it appears to do something and all is well after.
But, as soon as I shutdown and restart Visio, I get the same message
and have to go thru the same thing again. I can't get rid of it. I
have run a repair/re-install and done a complete re-installation but
with no success. The error message gives me no indication as to what
add-on it is having a problem with.

Has anyone experienced this before or have any ideas?

Regards,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Try to do the following which may resolve your issue:

STEP-1
=======
Run the command visio /r from the command prompt and open Visio. Close
Visio and launch Visio, if you still have the same problem go to STEP-2
( To do this go to Start-->Run and then type in visio /r in the Open field
of the Run dialog box and click OK.)

If you have Adobe professional installed on your system then try the
following steps:

STEP-2
=======
Locate the file Pdfmvisio.vsl and delete it

1. Close Visio if already running.
2. Search for the file named Pdfmvisio.vsl
3. Change the name of the the file to PdfmvisioOld.vsl
4. Launch Visio 2003. You may get a message, asking you to install the
component
for Adobe PDF maker
5. Insert the Adobe Professional CD into the drive and install the software
as
required.

If you have Adobe professional installed on your system then try the
following steps:

STEP-3
=======
Un-install Visio 2003 completely and re-install in a different location.

A. To completely uninstall Visio

1. Download and install Windows Installer cleanup utility and the link is
given below:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

2. Launch Windows Install Cleanu up from the Programs list and select Visio
2003 program in the list and click Remove button.

3. Restart your system.

4. Install Visio 2003.

Hope this helps.
