[Visio 2003] Creating connectors

dahtah

Hello everyone,
How can I force a line to appear when connecting two shapes?
When I create a shape, and then a connector in the shape sheet section, the
little yellow square appears on my shape. I then can connect two shapes.
The two shapes are connected, but no line appears connecting them.
Thanks for your help...

Connectors (lines) are shapes also. You have to add them along with the
shapes that you want connected.

Thank's for your help.
I'm a bit of a newbie to Visio, so how would Ido that?

For newbies like me, this is how I did.
Create a line.
Create a shape.
Group both.
In the general ShapeSheet, create a control.
position the control on the end of line. (in the controls section).
In the line shapesheet, in the Geometry Section, reference Controls of the
general sheet.
Fidle to line up.
That's it.
Once you've done that you can then make connexions make square angles and
all that, it's easy.
Hope this helps...

Looks like you are a bit confused. Visio has two basic types of shapes 1-D
and 2-D. Generally, 2-D shapes are the objects most people refer to as
shapes, they have a hieght and a width, the 1-d shapes are what most people
refer to as connectors or lines, they have a begin and an end point.

To connect two shapes, drop the two shapes on a page and then use the
connector tool or a connector from the stencil and drop it on one of the
shapes. The ends of the connectors are green and will turn to red when
connected. Now select the free end of the connector and place it over the
second shape until the end turns red.

In Visio 2007, there are light blue triangles around most shapes and
clicking the triangle will connect the shape to the next shape in that
direction.

The yellow square you were mentioning are control handles. They can be used
to connect shapes, but you need to add a geometry section to draw the line
to the control handle. They can also be used to affect the shape's geometry.
For example an opening door.
