Visio 2003 Export File Formats

I've been trying (in Visio 2002 Pro) to save a Visio graphic in a format that can be used on a Macintosh for a printing job requiring color separations. The Adobe Illustrator (.ai) export format works and the resulting file can be read and used on the Mac, but the .ai file is of poor quality (smooth curves look like rough terrain)

According to microsoft.com, Visio 2003 has improved file import/export capabilities, so I downloaded the new version from the MSDN website and fired it up. Alas, the .ai export format is gone altogether. What gives? I would hardly call this improved capabilities

If anyone know how I can export a Visio graphic to a mac compatible format that can be used for color separations, please let me know

Thanks

This lack of fuctionality is the very reason I am not upgrading mine to the
2003 version. I need the same thing you are wanting. I use illustrator
files extensively, and MS taking this out of Visio makes it very difficult
for me.

If you print to a PS printer you can use this just like an EPS. Have not
tried it with Visio - but with other software it will work.

I tried to print to pdf writer, the outfile is really
bad. Some words in the graph are corrupted. So, it seems
not a feasible solution.

The quality of output is directly associated with the ps print driver being
used (and all of its default setup parameters).

Hi there
In Visio 2003, there is a much better alternative to Illustrator, and that is to save it as SVG. You see, Illustrator versions 9, 10, and CS all open (not even import but Open!!) these formats. Be aware that Freehand (and any Macromedia product) do not support SVG, though

There's a HUGE SVG community on the Yahoo boards, mostly programmers right now. But designers and people who are more software users (rather than coders) are starting to use SVG because it's an open-source standard supported by the W3C.

Let me know if I can tell you more about SVG. I'm more experienced with Illustrator than with Visio, but have took it upon myself to understand how Visio 2003 "plays" with SVG
