Visio 2003 very Sloooow to load (several minutes) with Large Files, Why???

Subject picked from Alerton tech forum. Does Visio start to max out PC
resources based on number of pages in drawing? Do any Visio gurus have an
answer to this issue?? See following comments:

OK, My turn to bring up Visio 2003.... I do have it working, but it is
VERY slow compared to Visio 2002. Anyone else having that problem? Or
figured out how to speed it up? (By slow I mean it can take almost 4
minutes to open a large file, like Visio 2000 was). PC processor is pegged
at 100% in task manager (XP Pro)

VisiClean 2003 for Visio 2003 - Removes unused masters to help reduce .VSD
file size.

Tried that. Couple things happened:
1. With VisiClean Loaded VisioLogic dissapears from the toolbar (got
VisioLogic back after Uninstalling VisiClean as you suggested).
2. File did get about 1 Meg smaller, but still takes about as long to load.

Two other Engineers in our office have had similar experiences with large
Visio Files (over 20 pages) and 2003.

visio 2003 likes a LOT of memory (more than processor speed, although that
doesn't hurt)

Pages don't add a lot of memory overhead to Visio in and of themselves, but
individual shapes do. If you have lots of pages with lots and lots of
shapes on each and every page, you will start to eat up a lot of memory.

Couple things to try--open your "document stencil" (File>Shapes>Show
Document Stencil). If it has lots and lots of master shapes in it you might
try deleting the "orphan" shapes. An orphan shape is a shape in this
stencil that isn't on any drawing pages. If you get a message that says
"Master(s) to be deleted are linked to objects on a drawing page..." DONT
DELETE THAT SHAPE...yet. Delete any that don't give you that message first,
save and close the drawing and see if that helps. If you use a shape over
and over again (more than 1-2 instances of that master shape on the drawing
page), keeping the master in the document stencil actually saves memory.

Also--close any stencils that are open that you are not using.

You can also turn off the drawing preview in File>Properties>Summary--that
might save some memory.
