Visio 2007 trial - Can it's files be opened by my colleagues?

I just downloaded the trial version of Visio 2007, good for 60 days. Can
files I create there be saved and sent to my colleagues who have either Visio
2001 or Visio 2003? (This is my first experience so I do not have older
versions).

Microsoft sent an email with my trial with instructions that friends and
colleageus would need to download a "File Conversion Kit" to open my files in
an older version. My colleague, who has Visio 2001, followed all the
instructions but she still cannot open the ".vsd" file I sent her.

I tried saving it as a ".vdx" (open xml) file, but she still could not open
it.
What's wrong?

AFAIK there was no v2001 (v2000 or v2002), but I have digressed. v2007 can
save as v2003 (the file format is not supposed to have changed. SaveAs v2002
is also on the menu (which had the same format as v2000).
